What is the magic of our pelvis during pregnancy? And how best to support and nourish the potential of our pelvis?
In this workshop, we will explore the incredible wisdom of our pelvis to support the pregnant body and a growing baby in utero, as well as how the pelvis can birth a baby. We will learn about and practice yoga asanas that help to mobilise and stablise the pelvis in preparation for birth, how to maintain a healthy balance of our pelvic floor muscles and how yoga asanas need to be modified to support conditions such as pelvic girdle pain. We will demystify pelvic floor balancing, as well as take a closer look at common pelvic floor disorders that may appear during pregnancy.
If you are practicing yoga during your pregnancy (or teaching to pregnant women), this workshop will provide essential information for optimising pelvic health prenatally through the use of asanas and functional movement.
Topics to be covered:
Anatomical and physiological changes of the pelvis during pregnancy
Yoga asanas that can help to mobilise and stabilise the pelvis for birth preparation
Anatomy of the pelvic floor muscles
How posture and breath affect pelvic health
Dispelling common myths about pelvic floor balancing during pregnancy
Pelvic floor dysfunction during and after pregnancy
How to balance the pelvic floor muscles during pregnancy and in preparation for birth and postpartum recovery
What is pelvic girdle pain and how to modify yoga asanas to support this condition
This workshop will combine theory & practice, as well as be open for questions and discussion throughout. Please wear comfortable clothing to practice in, as well as bring a pen to take any notes. A handout will be provided for the material we cover together.
